JupyterCon is an annual industry event for data scientists, business analysts, researchers, educators, developers, and core project maintainers working within the Jupyter ecosystem. Quansight’s Dhavide Aruliah recently presented at JupyterCon 2023 in Paris, France.

Drawing from a decade of experience in academia, software bootcamps, and training engagements for corporate and government clients, Dhavide shared first-hand insights on teaching with Jupyter, the tools and techniques he used, and the lessons learned from 10+ years in the Python space. Among other things, he discussed:

  • The importance of tailoring training experiences to the way our brains naturally work, by approaches such as minimizing cognitive load, crafting low-stakes, in-context assessments, and integrating spaced repetition.
  • The steady advances in user interface, package/environment management, and platform hosting tools that have greatly simplified and improved the training experience for both instructors and students.
  • The similarities and differences between teaching in an academic setting versus training in corporate environments.
